Camille Davidson is an artist based in Brunswick, Maine.

She has studied at the Maine College of Art.

These past couple of years my work has reflected my need for quiet and solitude.I was drawn to set up my palette and myself in a forest surrounded by changing light and long deep shadows. As I worked through days and seasons, changes and shifts in the woods,I found it mirrored my own inner landscape as i change and emerge, shift myself from shadow to light and back again.

As i search to untangle my own knots I untangle the twisted curved branches of the woods all around me.I groped for understanding in the face of enveloping shadows and hidden light.I was pulling light from between the trees-and from my own hidden depths.

Encaustic, this ancient wax technique provides me a medium where I could both build and remove layers of opacity and translucent colors. With wax I found a way to ‘retreive’a lost piece of light by gouging into a built up layer of shadow.Light shifts and changes rapidly in the woods and i required a medium that would move with these shifts.

The Ahava Series is about emotion that  emerged from the forest work .Bursts and swirls of deep feeling.A winter of  exploration of love

These paintings are about searching, shifting, building and removing what was built in the forest around me and most definitely the forest within me as well.
